Getting Started
5 questionsClick “New document” in the sidebar: a blank page, a file import or creation with AI. From Home, the “Start” row also offers templates (essay, thesis, revision sheet, internship report).
You can import Word (.docx), Markdown (.md), HTML (.html) and text (.txt) files. Go through “New document” > “Import a file”, or use the “Import” card on Home.
Organize your documents with colored labels: from a document’s “⋯” menu, or with “Manage labels” in the sidebar. On Home, filter the list by label, and pin the documents you open often.
A free account can create up to 5 documents. With Pro, documents are unlimited. Your usage shows at the bottom of the sidebar and in Settings > Subscription.
Currently, SparkWriter requires an internet connection to function, as it relies on real-time sync and cloud storage. Offline support is planned for a future update.
Editor & Writing
8 questionsType “/” anywhere on a page to open the menu: headings, lists, quote, table, equation, image, page break, table of contents, footnote, and AI actions. It is the fastest way to format your text.
Hover over any block (paragraph, heading, list…) and a handle appears on the left. Click and drag it to move the block wherever you want in your document.
Yes. Type “/” then choose “Equation” for a centered formula, or “Inline formula” to write it within the sentence, in LaTeX.
Type “/” then choose “Code block”. The code keeps its formatting and syntax highlighting.
The usual shortcuts work: Ctrl/Cmd+B (bold), Ctrl/Cmd+I (italic), Ctrl/Cmd+U (underline), Ctrl/Cmd+Z (undo), Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z (redo). You can customize them in Settings > Shortcuts.
Open “Layout” (at the bottom of the editor or in the “⋯” menu): cover page, table of contents, numbered headings, font, size, line spacing, margins and page numbers. The table of contents updates by itself with the page numbers.
Yes. The editor shows real A4 pages, and Word and PDF exports use the same layout: same pages, same footnotes, same table of contents.
Yes. SparkWriter saves versions of your document while you write. Open “History” in the “⋯” menu to see what changed, preview a version and restore it.
AI Features
5 questionsWhen it is on, autocompletion suggests what comes next as you write. The suggestion appears in gray after your cursor: press Tab to accept it, or keep writing to ignore it. You turn it on or off from the editor’s “⋯” menu or in Settings > Preferences.
The Assistant reads your document: ask it a question, or ask for an outline, a transition or a proofread. When it edits your text, its suggestions appear right in the pages. Open it with the “Assistant” button at the top of the editor, or select a passage and choose “Ask”.
Each AI suggestion appears in the text: the original struck through, the new text highlighted in yellow. Keep it or cancel it under the passage; in the Assistant, “Keep all” or “Cancel all” settles all its suggestions at once.
A free account gets 40 AI actions (Assistant messages and actions on your selection), 100 autocompletions, 10 AI score checks and 5 humanizations per week. With Pro, everything is unlimited. What you have left shows at the bottom of the sidebar and in Settings > Subscription.
No. The content of your documents is sent to the AI only to generate the answer you asked for, and it is never used to train a model. All the details are in our Privacy Policy.
AI detector and Humanizer
4 questionsIt uses a large language model to rate your text (0–100%) on how “AI” it sounds, and lists the specific signals it spotted. It's a good warning indicator, but no detector is perfect — Turnitin included. Treat the score as a guide, not a guarantee.
Pick a tone (natural, casual, professional, academic) and an intensity. The humanizer rewrites your text to break the rhythm patterns and clichés that detectors latch onto, while keeping your meaning, citations and facts intact. You can humanize a selection in the editor or paste plain text into the dedicated Humanizer tab.
Often, yes — but we can't promise 100%. Detectors are a moving target and any tool that claims a guaranteed bypass is lying. SparkWriter lowers detection risk by rewriting the patterns most detectors key on. Always check what your school allows and own what you submit.
We make the tools — you decide how to use them. Most students use SparkWriter to draft faster, polish their own work, and translate. If your university bans AI assistance entirely, don't use it for assessed work. If they allow assisted writing with disclosure, disclose it. Your call.
Document Management
3 questionsClick “Search” in the sidebar, or press Ctrl K (Cmd K on Mac), and type part of the title. On Home, you can also filter your list by label and sort it.
Yes. Archive a document from its “⋯” menu: it leaves your list and goes to “Archive” in the sidebar, where you can restore it any time.
Document sharing is not available yet. Currently, all documents are private to their owner.
Export & Import
3 questionsClick “Export” at the top of the editor: Word (.docx) and PDF keep your layout; LaTeX, Markdown and HTML are under “Other formats”.
Yes. Images are embedded in Word and PDF exports. In Markdown and LaTeX exports, they are referenced by their address.
Currently, exports are per-document. Bulk export functionality is on our roadmap.
Billing & Subscription
3 questionsYes. The free plan gives you 5 documents, plus 40 AI actions (assistant included), 100 autocompletions, 10 AI detector scans and 5 humanizations per week — enough to write a full essay before you hit any limit. No credit card at sign-up.
On the yearly plan, email us at contact@sparkwriter.ai within 14 days of purchase and we'll refund you. The monthly plan isn't refunded, but you can cancel anytime: you keep Pro until the end of the month you've already paid for.
Yes. Cancel from the settings in one click — your subscription stops at the end of the current period and you keep Pro until then. Going back to free doesn't delete anything you wrote.
Account & Settings
5 questionsGo to Settings > Security and turn on two-step verification with an app like Google Authenticator. Keep your backup codes somewhere safe: they let you sign in if you lose your phone.
Go to Settings > Preferences and pick your language. SparkWriter is available in 17 languages, including French, English, Spanish, German, Japanese and Chinese.
Go to Settings > Account and click “Export” next to “Export my data”. You get a CSV file with your personal data, as the GDPR requires.
Write to us at contact@sparkwriter.ai from your account's email address and we'll delete it for you, along with your documents, labels and preferences. We also cancel your subscription if you have one. The request is handled within 30 days, and deletion is permanent.
Click “Go Pro” at the bottom of the sidebar, or go to Settings > Subscription. Pro makes everything unlimited: documents, Assistant, autocompletion, Humanizer and AI score checks. You can pay monthly or yearly.
